Underfloor heating with Aerothermal vs. Electric Radiant Foil

Which is the best option?

Many of our clients, when planning their efficient heating project with electric underfloor heating, ask us about underfloor heating systems with aerothermal energy. Like any heating system, aerothermal underfloor heating has its advantages and disadvantages. Here we tell you everything about underfloor heating systems.

How does the aerothermal underfloor heating system work?

Aerothermal radiant floor heating is a heating system that combines radiant floor technology with an aerothermal heat pump. The heat pump extracts energy from the outside air and transfers it to water, which circulates at low temperature through pipes installed under the floor. This system provides uniform and efficient heat, taking advantage of a renewable energy source. However, it requires a considerable initial investment, regular maintenance, and may be less efficient in very cold climates.

Renewable and efficient energy

Aerothermal energy extracts up to 70% of its energy from the outside air, making it a virtually renewable source. It also offers high performance with low power consumption and lower CO₂ emissions than conventional systems.

No fuel or storage

It doesn't require tanks or refills with diesel, propane, or biomass. By not using flammable fuels, it reduces risks and eliminates storage management. It's a safer and cleaner solution.

Uniform and comfortable heat

Aerothermal heating operates at a low temperature, distributing heat gently and evenly across the floor, ensuring a pleasant and consistent environment throughout the room.

At Cecather we offer you an alternative system to aerothermal energy: the Electric Radiant Foil. More efficient, economical and easy to install.

Disadvantages of underfloor heating with Aerothermal

❌ Maintenance

This system requires being subscribed to a maintenance contract to ensure its correct functioning and efficiency in the long term.

❌ refreshing soil

In areas with high humidity, cooling flooring can cause condensation, creating droplets because the floor is colder than the air in the home.

❌ Permissions

Depending on the size and situation of the home, it may be necessary to obtain special permits for installation, especially in apartment buildings.

❌ High investment

The aerothermal system requires a high investment for its installation. The current regulations (CTE) require a high level of insulation, which entails a large investment in air conditioning.

❌ Thermal inertia

Aerothermal underfloor heating has a lot of thermal inertia, since the concrete floor must acquire the necessary temperature to transmit the heat to the final pavement, which takes time.

❌ Electricity

An increase in the contracted electricity power is required to ensure the efficient operation of the aerothermal system.

❌ Performance

The 70% used as a renewable source decreases over time, affecting the energy efficiency of the system in the long term.

❌ Visual and sound impact

The external pump necessary for aerothermal energy has a visual impact and generates noise (between 45 dB and 65 dB). The indoor unit also requires sufficient space for installation.

❌ Climatic zone

It is not advisable in very cold areas, since its performance drops considerably above 5ºC (between 30% and 40%), affecting its efficiency.

The best alternative: Electric Radiant Foil

The radiant foil heating system consists of installing thin sheets of heating material under the floor. These sheets, powered by electricity, emit heat evenly and efficiently. When heated, the radiant sheet distributes heat evenly from the floor to the rest of the room, providing constant thermal comfort.

Cecather electric underfloor heating offers multiple advantages compared to other heating systems. It provides uniform heat distribution, is low consumption, requires no maintenance and is compatible with all types of floors.

In addition, its installation is simple and quick, guaranteeing optimal comfort and greater energy efficiency in your home.
