
Proposing an aerothermal system for your house has A lot of advantages. However, in order for you to assess this option, it is important that you also know its limitations.

- High investment. The aerothermal system requires a high investment for its installation. In current construction and under current regulations (CTE) the level of insulation is required to be high, so this entails an unnecessary large investment in air conditioning.
- Maintenance. This system requires a subscription to a maintenance contract.
- Performance. The 70% used as a renewable source decreases over time.
- Thermal inertia. The aerothermal radiant floor has a lot of thermal inertia since the concrete floor first has to acquire the necessary temperature to transmit this heat flow to the final flooring. This takes a long period of time.
- Refreshing floor. When aerothermal energy is used for both heating underfloor heating and cooling underfloor heating, the latter, in areas with high environmental humidity, can cause condensation problems. The reason is due to the fact that, when cooling the pavement, if its temperature decreases from the dew point, drops of condensation will be created, since the pavement is colder than the air in the house.
- Visual impact. The aerothermal system requires an external pump, so this has a visual impact and generates problems due to the location of the unit.
- Sound impact. The outdoor unit, as well as the indoor unit, produce a sound level of between 45 dB and 65 dB. Keep in mind that the indoor unit must have sufficient space for its installation.
- permissions. Depending on the size and situation of the home, it may be necessary to obtain special permits for its execution and implementation. If you live in a residential building and you do not have a terrace or patio, it must be installed on the façade, so you must take into account the legislation at the municipal level and have a community of neighbors.
- Electricity. An increase in the contracted power of electricity is necessary.
- Climatic zone. It is not advisable in very cold climatic areas, because its performance will be lower. From 5ºC its performance drops considerably –between 30 and 40%-. In addition, since its operation is based on an evaporative system that comes into direct contact with the air, its performance levels may be unstable due to fluctuations in the outside temperature.
